Updated October 8, 2026 · Stash is being prepared for its first App Store release.

Bring something to the Tape

Copy text, then use Paste in Stash, or choose Stash from another app’s share sheet. Stash accepts text, links, images and files. If it is missing from the share sheet, open the app list and add it to your favorites.

To capture when opening Stash, enable Settings → Tape → Capture when I open Stash. This is optional and follows iOS paste permissions; it does not monitor the clipboard in the background.

Lift just the pieces you need

  1. Tap or hold a text clip to loosen it into Found, Words, Sentences or Lines.
  2. Tap pieces to lift them, or swipe across pieces to select a range. Hold briefly before dragging vertically to select across rows.
  3. Open the lift tray to review the joined result. Choose a join style, then copy, share or shelve the selection. The available join styles depend on the selected pieces.

You can also swipe across words in a clip’s detail view, including text recognized in an image. Starting on a selected piece removes pieces from the selection.

Keep things on the Shelf

Pin frequently used clips to the desk, or place them in stacks. A stack can fill itself using rules such as the clip type, source app or a matching phrase. Open a stack’s menu to manage its rules or edit it.

Search finds clips across the Tape and stacks. On a wide iPad window, search and navigation stay in the sidebar.

Save and reuse a file

Share a file to Stash, copy it in Files and paste it into Stash, or choose Tape → More → Add a file. On iPad, hold the add button to see this option. Kept files are limited to 25 MB.

Open a kept file for Quick Look, copy it back as a file, or share the original. A text clip containing a file path is different from a kept copy of the file. If a file cannot be accessed, open it in Files and share it directly to Stash.

Set up the Stash keyboard and widgets

  1. In iOS Settings, open General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Stash.
  2. Open Stash in that keyboard list and enable Allow Full Access so it can read your saved clips from shared storage.
  3. Save a clip in Stash, then switch keyboards using the globe key in another app.

The keyboard does not send your typing to a server. Some apps and secure fields do not allow third-party keyboards. Add a Stash widget from the Home Screen widget gallery to see recent clips and open Lift latest.

Stash Plus and Restore Purchases

Stash Plus is a one-time purchase for iCloud sync and the Paper and Marker app icons. The Tape, lifting, stacks, keyboard, widgets and local backups are free.

Open Settings → Everywhere → iCloud sync for the localized price and purchase controls. If you already own Plus, use Restore Purchases with the same App Store account. If the product cannot load, check your connection and use Reload purchase. A cancelled or unverified purchase does not unlock Plus.

You can also reach Plus through Settings → Look → App icon. Slate is free; Paper and Marker require Plus.

If a clip has not synced

Check that Plus is restored on each device, each uses the same iCloud account, and iCloud has available storage. Open Stash on both devices and check Settings → Everywhere → iCloud sync for uploads, downloads or an error. Large files and the first sync can take longer.

Stash Plus uses your existing iCloud storage. App Store purchase ownership and iCloud account access are separate. If Settings reports local-only storage or a problem, keep the app and its data in place, make a backup and contact support. Avoid reinstalling while investigating missing clips.

Backups, cleanup and appearance

Use Settings → Data → Back up and restore to export a backup before major changes. Store it somewhere you trust: it may contain your full saved collection. Exported copies are separate from the live library.

Settings → Tape → Keep the tape for controls retention. Age-based cleanup preserves pinned clips, clips in stacks and clips currently open. Synced deletions may reach your other devices.

Choose Paper, Slate or Auto under Settings → Look. App icon choices are in the same section.

Link previews and on-device tools

Link previews contact the saved link’s website and may fail when the site blocks requests or requires sign-in. Turn them off in Settings → Tape → Capture & privacy. Text detection and optional writing tools run on your device; writing tools require supported Apple Intelligence hardware and availability.

Read the privacy policy for clipboard access, private iCloud storage and optional diagnostics.

Report a problem

Email chen.he@icloud.com with your app version and build, device model, system version, exact error and steps to reproduce it.

Settings → Data → Help & feedback can prepare an email and diagnostics attachment for you to review. If Mail is unavailable, email from your preferred app. Remove personal text from screenshots or attachments before sending them.
